The DMC-600 Flexibility

The DMC-600 Digital Music Center is ideal for anyone wanting to stream music from a PC or MAC via a USB cable, otherwise known as a USB DAC.

CD’S STILL HAVE A PLACE…AND A MEANS OF PLAYBACK
One obvious feature of the DMC-600 is that it has a built in CD Player to play standard CD’s. This is perfect for the customer that has a big CD collection and still enjoys spinning those shiny little silver discs from time to time. Like vinyl, CD has experienced a little bit of a resurgence. However, in usual Cary Audio fashion, this “CD Player” has quite a few unique features hidden up its sleeve. Wait for it…

So, we’ve established the DMC-600 is BOTH a USB DAC and a CD PLAYER. Let’s focus on the USB DAC side for a moment.

CONNECT YOUR PC OR MAC WITH A USB CABLE TO THE USB INPUT OF THE DMC-600
Much of digital music listening today is done by playing ripped CD’s (copying the CD to a computer’s storage) or downloaded music files stored on a computer. So, how do you playback those files? Simple! Once connected and through the use of a driver (for PC) and media player software, like JRiver, Roon, etc., the computer acts as the interface to control the playback of the music to the DMC-600. Some media player software even has optional phone or tablet apps that actually let you control the media player for convenient listening and easy access. Keep in mind this does require you to have a computer within an USB cable length of the DMC-600 which is connected to your stereo system. If you are really computer savvy and don’t love the idea of a laptop interface in your listening environment, you could use a small computer “appliance” like a MAC Mini instead. That combined with a media player app for control is an elegant option. Or, you could even have one “slave” computer connected to the DMC-600 (like the MAC Mini) to act as a “bridge” to access a different (larger) computer’s music library located somewhere else on your network.

LISTEN TO ANY INTERNET  MUSIC SERVICE
Using a music service desktop software interface, the music can be “streamed” from the computer. For example, you can play music from services like TIDAL, Spotify, Pandora, iHeart Radio, vTuner, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Google Music, and on and on and on! The computer once again acts as the interface to send the music it’s streaming from the internet out to the computers USB port and into the USB port on the DMC-600.

BLUETOOTH LIKE YOU’VE NEVER HEARD
The DMC-600 has built-in aptX® lossless Bluetooth. If you don’t want to use a computer to stream internet music services as mentioned above, you can easily connect your phone or tablet to the DMC-600 via Bluetooth and use your favorite music service app, or play music stored on your phone or tablet and send that music directly to the DMC-600. No need to fuss with a computer.

WHAT ABOUT THE “DAC” PART
With all of the digital sources mentioned above, CD’s, computer based music files, computer internet music services from a computer, phone and tablet app based music services, they all have one thing in common. They send out digital data. We don’t hear in digital, we hear in analog. So, all of the digital sources must be converted to analog (that’s the job of the DAC (digital to analog converter) inside the DMC-600). The DMC-600 uses very sophisticated DAC’s to accomplish this. Once it’s converted to analog, the signal is passed through to the analog stage (just as, if not more important than, the digital and conversion stages) and out to your preamplifier, receiver, integrated amplifier, etc., for listening enjoyment.

THE ANALOG STAGE(S)
Once the DAC’s do their job of converting the digital signals to analog, the DMC-600 offers two different analog stages to choose from. One vacuum tube and one solid state. Just pressing a button on the front panel or IR remote switches the analog stage from the warm richness of vacuum tube sound to the detailed punch of solid state.  It’s like having two CD players and USB DAC’s in one units. Sometimes, depending on your source material, you might prefer the silky smoothness of tubes, and other times you might prefer the crystalline slam of solid state. With the DMC-600, the choice is yours.

TECHY STUFF
The DMC-600 is incredibly advanced and cannot only playback standard resolution digital files, but it can also natively playback almost any digital resolution from CD 16 bit 44.1kHz up to 32 bit 384kHz super high resolution audio files. For DSD lovers, it will also playback native computer DSD (Direct Stream Digital, which is what true SACD is) files up to 256 through its USB input. What’s more? With the use of our proprietary TruBit™ selectable upsampling, any digital inputs (excluding USB) can be Upsampled to one of  seven (7) different sample rates all the way up to 768kHz.  This mean, CD, Bluetooth, or any digital coaxial or optical connected source can convert the signal up to super high resolution 32 bit 768kHz files prior to conversion and out as an incredible musically engaging analog sound!
